Born in 1982 in Kismayo, Somalia, Sheikh Omar was raised in a family deeply rooted in Islamic values and scholarship. From an early age, he dedicated himself to religious learning, successfully memorizing the Holy Qur’an and mastering its recitation at a young age—an achievement that laid a strong foundation for his future as a scholar and community leader.

After completing his early religious studies, Sheikh Omar pursued advanced education in Islamic Sharia in Somalia before relocating to Kenya to further expand his academic and spiritual knowledge. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Sharia and a Diploma in Arabic and English Languages, qualifications that have strengthened his ability to teach, communicate, and lead across diverse communities.

Over the years, Sheikh Omar has traveled widely across the region to promote Islamic education, peacebuilding, and Da’wah (religious outreach). His tireless efforts have inspired thousands of followers and scholars within the Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a movement, particularly in the Dadaab camps, where he currently resides in the IFO Refugee Camp.

As a respected scholar and visionary leader, Sheikh Omar remains committed to strengthening the understanding and practice of Islamic Sharia, fostering unity among Muslims, and guiding the organizational programs of Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a throughout Northeastern Kenya.

He has also performed the Umrah pilgrimage, demonstrating his lifelong devotion to faith, service, and the moral upliftment of his community.

With a vision rooted in peace, education, and unity, Sheikh Omar continues to enhance the understanding and application of Islamic Sharia, strengthen community cohesion, and lead the organization’s religious programs across the region.

As the Overall Chairman of Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a, Sheikh Omar Calaama leads religious, educational, and social initiatives in Dadaab and the broader Northeastern region, guiding thousands of followers with wisdom, humility, and unwavering faith. He also possesses exceptional leadership skills, strong critical thinking abilities, and a deep understanding of conflict resolution—qualities that enable him to navigate complex social issues and mediate disputes, earning him widespread respect among scholars, elders, and community members.
